Fire Engineer - Midlands

We're looking for fire engineers to grow our technical presence in the midlands
Salary:  £40,000 - £47,500 DoE

Fire Engineers manage and deliver fire engineering projects to clients. You'll present findings through reports and also peer review reports from other members of the technical team, playing a vital part in the technical side of the business. 

You will have a minimum of a degree in a fire engineering discipline with ideally 2 years' fire engineering design experience within a reputable UK-based fire engineering consultancy. A comprehensive understanding and the ability to competently demonstrate the previous application of UK fire design guidance/codes is essential.

You need to be a confident, strong communicator with the ability to make decisions as you will not only be dealing with clients on a daily basis, but other construction professionals, colleagues and peers via all modes of communication, including phone and video conferencing, email and in person.

The Technical Services Team houses PartB’s specialist engineering services as well as a core fire engineering team to support surveying, testing, and certification, to varying extents.

The Technical Services Team has specialisms in: surveying, firestopping, passive fire protection, external wall construction, fire testing, sprinklers, materials analysis, structural fire engineering, active fire safety systems, fire alarms, smoke control, computational fluid dynamics, and technology. The Technical Services Team applies this knowledge to projects and internal processes to enhance PartB’s offering to clients.

Main Duties

  • Deliver and manage fire engineering projects
  • Provide fire risk assessments to a wide range of structures and risk groups
  • Presentation of findings, reports and workshops
  • Complete fee quotes, PQQ and ITT submissions for fire safety tenders
  • Work individually and part of a team to win or deliver projects
  • Work directly with clients in an outward-facing role
  • Promote and ensure technical excellence
  • Attend client meetings and provide fee proposals as required
  • Provide technical guidance and provide advice for clients as appropriate
  • Provide technical advice to employees and associates of the company

Key Skills & Requirements

  • MSc Fire Engineering degree or BEng/BSc degree
  • AIFireE/FRM Accreditation
  • IEng/application in process
  • Typically 2+ years' experience in a consultancy or similar environment
  • Knowledge and experience of UK fire safety legislation and standards
  • Clear understanding of the total fire concept - from client brief through to construction and operation
  • Development and implementation of fire strategies, projects and research initiatives
  • Possess excellent report writing and communication skills  
  • Ability to multi-task - you will be required to work on multiple projects concurrently, juggling multiple demands
  • Proven ability to work remotely, both individually and as part of a team
